Home WIP 02

As an increasing number of old trees were chopped down to clear land for human developments, little birds had to seek new homes.

They did not have the strength of bigger birds who acted like kings of the remaining trees. Neither did they feel safe hiding in bushes where larger animals could easily find them. Over time, the hungry and tired birds wondered whether there was a place they belonged to.

One day, a little bird spotted some floating plants, with large flowers that offered sweet nectar and thick clusters of leaves it can hide in.

"Who are you?" A sky blue bird chirped curiously.

"I'm a lost bird," the little bird replied, "my family and I have lost our home trees."

"Well, you'll be safe here," the blue bird reassured little bird, "these plants will protect us."

This theme was one of the ideas I had some time ago for my children's book illustration class project, that I would like to illustrate in a simple way. Birds tend to slip into my mind somehow because they're usually the first thing I see in the morning..random little birds checking out my plants or building a nest there once in a while.

The little birds and floating plants idea is inspired by tiny clownfish and anaemones that protect them, as well as the idea that plants and animals evolved together for survival.
