Inspired by one of the old choir songs, 'Cloths of Heaven'. My favorite part is 'Tread softly.. softly.. you tread on my dreams'. I love the delicate, wistfulness of it, and hope to do something like that here.
Gift art for Jasmine's (choir friend) birthday on 16 October. The finished version with the background was quite hard to scan because of the light tones, so I used the WIP version instead. I love the subtle highlights though.
I only had a week to complete this, so it might look .. less polished. I like the brighter colors but my perfectionist self screams for 20 layer work. Although most people don't notice it but for my older illustrations I rely heavily on many thin layers of color before coming up with the final colors. Nowadays I'm a bit lazy so I use a more solid coloring style. Especially with markers.
I still have a deep love for your lines. They're always so surreal and whispy and full of movement.

Haha, thanks. Nature always inspires me - I love staring at the contours, colors and textures..

Haha.. look carefully and you'll probably see the naked back (white part) of a woman. The pink stuff is her hair.

ahh yes.. I SEE IT! its like those eye illusion games aint it? and u used copic in it? wow... since u live in singapore... i was wondering if u know where to buy cheap copic markers? or are they all standard? and wad colors do u recomend i should have? do u need alot of colors to make great work?
Haha, no lah. >.< It's very weird sometimes, because I can see it very clearly right from the beginning. And when I can't see anything people tell me about all the things they could see (but I can't).
Cheap copic markers? Go to the art shop called Straits at North Bridge Shopping Centre (the black building opposite Bras Basah Complex, nearest MRT stations are City Hall or Bugis). They sell copic markers there for $5.50 each without student discount.
Hmm as for marker colors, it depends on how you color. I tend to mix watercolor pencils with markers, so I would recommend base colors like cool gray no.2 (C2) , lilac (V04S), warm gray no.4 (W4) , pale blue (b32), carmine (R37S), canary yellow or acid yellow..Just buy the normal marker ones (kinda squarish at the ends).
You don't need a lot of colors because if you understand color theory you can mix your own colors with only about 3-10 colors. Sometimes it's also about using the right colors to create a certain mood.. my work used to be very colorful but they felt about the same after a while because too many colors can be quite distracting. Even black and white work can be beautiful in it's own way, or a painting made up mainly of blues. Try doing different pieces with a different main color - maybe red, blue, green, purple, yellow, orange, etc . It's not so much about how many colors a work needs in order to be good, but how the colors are used to convey what the artist wants.

Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it. Each day we will feature 5 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article.
In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
